Angels Pitcher Dies In Car Accident

As the Phillies have an off day today, I thought I would have nothing to write/rant about.

I was wrong.

Nick Adenhart, Angels, SP, MLB, Foxsports.com

Last night, Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart was killed in an automobile accident. After watching the video report on the website of the local ABC affiliate, I am not only saddened, but infuriated.

As the car in which Adenhart was a passenger was proceeding through an intersection, it was broadsided by a minivan which ran a red light. The driver fled the scene, but was later apprehended.

Now here’s the part that really makes me mad. Not only was the suspect driving while intoxicated, he has a prior DUI and was driving with a suspended license!!

I hope he gets the fullest punishment the law allows! I am thinking very nasty, nasty thoughts about this guy right now!

Adenhart was just 22. Earlier in the evening, he made his season debut for the Angels and pitched 6 shutout innings. He had to have been feeling pretty good. A few hours later he is dead. All of baseball is today mourning the loss of a promising young pitcher.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Adenhart family. R.I.P., Nick.

To the driver of that minivan, you get no sympathy at all for what you’ve done. R.I.H. (rot in h*ll), scumbag!

Sue – I echo your sentiments! Since this is a “family friendly site” I can not describe to you what I would like to see done to the driver, but I think you get the idea. Who the h-e-l-l are these people who think they are above the law and go out and risk the lives of SO many innocent people. Do you think burning at the stake is still practiced in California??

That driver was what???? Do they have the death penalty for drunk driving? I’m just asking.

I just wrote a comment, Sue, but the tech glitches ate it, I guess. Yes, infuriating. The driver should never have been on the road. Cases like this are all too common on the California freeways.

The legal system is so screwed up when it comes to cases like this. I had a patient last week at the hospital whose daughter was killed when a drunk with a suspended license ran a light and hit the passenger side of the car. So far the driver is still walking around! Infuriating!

I feel the same way; I heard on the radio this morning that a judge had previously told the driver that he could face murder charges if he caused an incident like this. Only time will tell, but at least we know there is a good chance justice will be served. For now, all we can do is remember Nick and pray for his family and teammates.

I just wanted to post something about what I am doing with MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving) to raise money and awareness to help them STOP DRUNK DRIVING!!

Veteran “Ballhawk” John Witt has caught 4,885 baseballs at professional baseball games over the past 32 seasons. 3,763 of those are MLB baseballs (99 game HRs) & 1,122 MiLB baseballs.
On April 9, 2009 Angels pitcher Nick Adenhart and friends Courtney Stewart and Henry Pearson were killed by a drunk driver. Their friend Jon Wilhite was the only one to survive the crash and remains in the hospital. As a lifelong baseball fan who lost a friend as a kid to a drunk driver I felt that I had to do something. This season I will be catching “Baseballs 4 MADD” to help them raise awareness and money to continue their efforts to STOP DRUNK DRIVING!! You can help too by making a pledge for each baseball that I catch at Major League and Minor League games during the 2009 baseball season by going to http://mlballhawk.com/Baseballs_4_MADD.html
