A Disturbing Realization
The other day, I was thinking about the fact that I don’t seem to have the same anticipation, the same glee, the same “phever”, regarding the upcoming playoffs as in the past couple years. Don’t get me wrong, I was very happy when the Phillies clinched the NL East last week. And now that Game 1 of the NLDS will be upon us in just a few hours, I’m feeling the stirrings of excitement.
Or maybe it’s just gas. 🙂
Just a few years ago, it would have been unthinkable, nay, unbelievable that the Phils would capture the division four seasons in a row.
But now they have.
And therein lies the crux of my problem – the sustained success of these Phillies has led me to a point where I now expect excellence from them.
Expecting excellence on a yearly basis? Good grief! I can only come to one conclusion.
I feel as if I’m becoming like…..like……a (gasp!) Yankees fan.
Rants, Raves, and Random Thoughts 
Well, Sue, I wonder if that first game got you into the mood for Phillies Phever in the playoffs. That was a gem by Halladay– a single walk away from another Perfect Game. Well, I guess a no-hitter will have to suffice! 😉 Congrats to Halladay, and the Phillies, on that Game 1 win. That was fun to watch!

Hi Sue………I am there with you. Excitement has become Expectation of Excellence. I ponder how fortunate Philly fans are these days and make sure I savor the moments. It can’t be taken for granted but we are able to say “We deserve it”!
It should not be confused with the Darth Vader of baseball, the evil empire, the black hole that sucks all boyhood dreams out of baseball and sends them far away. That is the other side.
Expectation of Excellence from an team of genuine team oriented baseball players with amazing talent is wonderful.
