Seeing Quadruple

While creating my last blog post, I wanted to check some information on Mike Stutes’ college career. So I did what everyone does these days, and googled “Michael Stutes”. In the results for images, I noticed one that looked very familiar:

This was a photo I took in August 2009, and used in a subsequent blog post. But when I hovered my cursor over the photo, I noticed it wasn’t from my blog, but from a site called Bleacher Report. So I clicked on it and found this:

I also noticed an option to search by image.

I was a bit surprised to find two more sites that were using the same picture. Here it is on Phuture Phillies:

And here on phillysports.com:

The curious thing is that my photo first appeared in 2009, and all three of these posts are from 2011. I have to imagine that there were other/newer (better?) pictures of Stutes out there for scavenging.

Nonetheless, they say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, so I suppose I should be flattered that these three sites liked my picture enough to use it. I just wish at least one of them would have given me/my blog proper credit!

Why those little so-and-sos! Not cool at all!!

I’m sure I’ve seen my pictures other places too. It is very uncool. Nice picture.

You have copyright rights in anything you write, all photos, etc., even if you don’t have a copyright symbol on your blog site. You can politely write to the sites that have pirated your photos and ask them to take them down. If they don’t do that, you can pursue their hosts. If that doesn’t work, you can file a Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) complaint. Of course, it is easier to defend a copyright if you display a copyright symbol on your page. Here is a link to get one that embeds in your footer: http://www.blogtrafficexchange.com/blog-copyright/

You should definitely write to all three sites and ask them to at least give you and your blog credit. And barring that they should take them down.

Sue,
I hope you have follow up on this to at least get credit.
Hey! Today is my three year anniversary with my blog! Funny I would have started it a day before Valentines but not really. Dodgers are my Valentines! I posted pictures of the softball tournament. Boy was I sore the following day but it was so much fun. I would do it again. Only this time I would practice and get in better shape.

If you ask them for credit I’m sure they’ll oblige. Sometimes, the generations of a web image are so far removed from the source that it’s hard to tell. Congrats on being internet phamous though!

You’ve been credited, my apologies.

I’m glad you got credit for your photo. I usually either put my web address or MlBlogs name on my pics, so if someone does use them maybe other fans will at least check my website out!

Thanks Mike! I’ve since started doing the same, though I haven’t been to any games yet this season (!) to post photos, hence my lack of blogging the past couple months.
